Rocket 88 - D-class catamaran

Rocket 88 is a custom D-class catamaran designed by Howard Spruit & built by Serge Pond in 1987 in Santa Cruz, CA.  It is 34' long (33' 9" at waterline), 18' wide, and weighs 1325lbs.  Construction is airex core & fiberglass laminate with AME 4000 resin, with kevlar reinforcements around the beams and carbon laminate decks.  The front crossbeam is aluminum; the rear is carbon fiber.  The daggerboards are over 7' in length and built from carbon fiber, weighing in at about 28lbs each.  The rudders are new lightweight Waterat carbon fiber foils.  It sports a 46' rotating mast, and is currently configured with a 560 square foot main and a 998 square foot spinnaker.  It holds the Ditch Run record at a blazing 3 hours and 57 minutes, and the 3-Bridge Fiasco record in 1 hour, 51 minutes, and 32 seconds.  This is one fast, scary ride!
